During this nine month program students will learn a variety of areas in the drafting field including mechanical, residential and commercial architecture, process piping, structural detailing, and civil drafting. Students will also learn the proper techniques and standards of drafting while using the latest versions of CAD software including AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Pro-E, Architectural Desktop and many others.

Enrollment is open to post-secondary students and secondary students who qualify. High school students should contact their school counselor for more information. This program is approved for Veteran’s benefits.

Curriculum

First Semester
CDDT 125 Drafting Technology
Basic concepts and skills of mechanical drawing, use and knowledge of drafting tools, supplies, and equipment. Mechanical drafting fundamentals will be presented, along with an explanation of standard drafting practices.

Topics covered will include drafting equipment, media, sketching, lettering and lines, geometric construction, multi-views, auxiliary views, sections, pictorials, and dimensioning. Practical and realistic math problems associated with drafting topics will also be covered.

CDDT 170 Computer-Aided Drafting I
Computer-Aided Drafting I explores the fundamentals of computer- aided drafting (CAD) with emphasis placed on drawing set-up, creating and modifying geometry, storing and retrieving predefined shapes; placing, rotating, and scaling objects; adding text and dimensions; using layers and coordinate systems; as well as using computer input and output devices.

CDDT 171 Computer-Aided Drafting II
Computer-Aided Drafting II emphasizes advanced CAD techniques, including CAD system customization. The student will be introduced to advanced applications used to customize and program a CAD system. Learned skills will include, but are limited to, menu and toolbar customization, use of accelerators, aliases and scripts, importing and exporting files, attribute data, and introduction to data base links.

CDDT 123 Parametric Modeling
Creation of 2D parametric profiles that will be transformed into 3D models. Models will be used to create drawings that are similar to those used in the industry. Presentation drawings of these models will be included within this course curriculum.

CDDT 120 Descriptive Geometry
The graphical analysis of points, lines, and planes that are used in the development of Euclidean plane geometry problems. Terms, definitions, and axioms will be discussed during the scope of this course. Algebraic functions will be applied to specific problems to compute and determine measurement results.

This course will use hands-on activities to reinforce descriptive geometry theorems.

Students will use critical thinking, problem-solving, mathematical calculations, and appropriate technology to solve spatial problems.

RL-146 Drafting General Math
This course is a review of general mathematics. Subjects include operations with whole numbers, fractions, decimals, percents and using graphs.

RL-149 Drafting Algebra
This course is a review of basic algebra . Subjects include signed numbers, basic algebraic operations, simple equations, complex equations, ratio and proportion, Cartesian coordinates, systems of equations, and quadratic equations.

Second Semester
CDDT 130 Architectural Drafting I
This course prepares the student in the area of Architectural drafting for an entry level position under an Architect or Engineer. Students will develop a complete set of residential floor plans using latest AutoCAD software.

CDDT 131 Architectural Drafting II
This course prepares the student in the area of Architectural drafting for an entry level position under an Architect or Engineer. Students will develop complete set of commercial floor plans using latest AutoCAD software.

CDDT 140 Structural Steel Detailing
This course prepares the student in the area of Structural Steel drafting for an entry level position. Students will cover proper symbols and terminology.

CDDT 145 Civil Drafting
Students will learn to identify and draw different types of maps, identify different types of surveys, calculate leveling fields, global positioning system, map symbols, and legal descriptions.

CDDT 275 Applied Communications
This course prepares the student for acquiring a position as a drafter and the soft skills to retain the position.

RL-155 Drafting Geometry
This course is a review of plane geometry. Subjects include angular measure, triangles, congruent and similar figures, polygons, circles, areas of geometric figures, and volumes.

RL-160 Drafting Trigonometry
This course covers applications of trigonometry. Subjects include right angle triangles, sine law, cosine law and vectors.

Classroom Supply List

Career Opportunities & Placement
Each student who completes a program will be assisted by the department instructors in securing desirable  employment.  While SAT graduates have historically enjoyed a high rate of placement, the school does not guarantee job placement.  Job opportunities include:

• Agri-Related Industries (Manufacturing, Designers)
• Construction Companies
• Civil Engineering Firms
• City, County and State Engineering Offices, Labs or Fields
• Electrical Specialist Engineering
• Recreational Industries
• Mechanical Engineering Firms
• Architectural Engineering Firms

Enrollment for secondary and post-secondary students is based on first-come, first-serve by the date the signed application and campus/program fee is received in Student Services. Cost information is subject to change without notice.

This program is open to juniors and seniors in high school as well as post secondary students.
