Thanks and in Cooperation with: KETS (Kansas Environmental Training
System, Inc.) and KDHE (Kansas Department of Health and Environment.
Semester Courses
The 18-week long semester courses are designed for personnel working in
operation, maintenance, and management of water and wastewater
utilities. Once weekly, 3 1/2-hour classroom sessions are usually
presented on Thursdays from 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm. The outlines
attached list topics to be presented in each classroom session.
Additional information is offered through on-the-job training sessions
and/or in 1, 1½, 2, or 3 day workshops.
General Program Information
All courses and workshops meet Kansas’ Department of Health and
Environment requirements for continuing education and add points
required to qualify for Certification Examinations. They are presented
throughout the State of Kansas in cooperation with the other Kansas
Environmental Training System institutions. If you are interested in

General Workshop Information:
Fall 2008 - Spring 2009
Environmental Technology workshops are 1 day, 1½ days, 2 days, or 3 days in length. Subjects presented
cover operation, maintenance, and management of treatment processes,
distribution systems, collection systems, certification examination
preparation, basic, and applied math, and lab procedures. Cost to the
participant or employer varies depending on the length of each workshop. As an example, a typical 12 hour
workshop costs $68.00.

Certificate of Attendance
Each workshop participant will receive a certificate of hours
attended to fulfill KDHE certification requirements.
Certificate of Achievement
Serious operators who wish to go beyond just attending a
workshop may earn a certificate of achievement by passing an
examination over the workshop materials at the conclusion of a
presentation. This 30 minute test is strictly voluntary and may
include a hands-on competency. (No exam fee required) |

Presenter: April Hill |

Presenter: Dale Vanderhoof |

|
April Hill is a Class IV Water Operator with 6 1/2 years
experience as a Lab Tech, Operator, and Softener, for the
City of Salina. She has a B.S. with a double major
in Biology and General Science from Troy State University.
Prior to her experience in water, she was employed for nine
years with Georgia-Pacific Chemical Division in Atlanta,
Georgia in Research & Development. While this is her
second year
of teaching, she is experienced in Surface Water Treatment and
Groundwater Treatment and has over 10 years of laboratory
experience. She has worked with three city utilities and
presented over 5 workshops in less that one year.
April has been married for 20 years and has a 13 year
old daughter and a dog named "Georgia". She enjoys traveling,
cooking and singing in her church choir. |

Dale Vanderhoof is a Class IV Wastewater Operator. He worked
in a treatment facility for 8 1/2 years for the City of
McPherson before taking the job as the Wastewater instructor
for Salina Tech. While at the city of McPherson, Dale took
care of the treatment facility as well as seven lift stations;
performing duties such as lab testing, cleaning, maintenance, biosolids
handling and hauling, operations, computer programming and
operation, lift station maintenance, report and data handling,
electrical, etc.
Dale is in his 7th year as an instructor for Salina Tech
School, and has presented over 50 workshops to almost 2,000
attendees, and has worked in almost 50 wastewater systems,
providing training and assistance.
Dale is married and has a 18-year-old son. Dale enjoys
computers, camping, photography, and video production. He has his
own video production studio, where he produces and edits videos
and creates DVDs for weddings and other projects. |
