Students
may enroll anytime for the classes as there are varied start dates for
each program. Students should check with the Student Services Office for
a schedule. Students will enroll for second semester in January.
Students will pre enroll in the spring for the second year of a two-year
program. Any person wanting to enroll in the Salina Area Technical
School must fill out an application blank and declare a vocational
objective. An application for admission must be submitted to the Student
Services Office and must be accompanied by a $70.00 campus fee. An
application form may be obtained by contacting the Student Services
office at 785-309-3100 ext. 3106 or 1-800-466-7989.
The school reserves the right to refuse enrollment to any student who
does not propose the use of this training for entry into employment
according to federal guidelines.
1. Students from cooperating high schools are admitted to the school
upon recommendation of their high school principal or counselor.
However, these students remain students of their parent high school.
2. High school students may enroll for three hours and fifteen minutes
per day and spend the balance of the day in their parent school taking
regular academic courses, meeting the requirements for high school
graduation. High school students must have a junior or senior
classification at the parent high school.
3. A full-time program of study, six hours and thirty minutes per
day, is available for post secondary students.
Students will be placed in a technical training program based on the
assessment of an aptitude test along with a transcript from a high
school, college or GED Center. Several programs will require references,
interview with a committee of staff members, and other criteria. See
individual program listings for specific assessment procedures.
Tuition for high school students will be paid by the resident Unified
School District. The State of Kansas subsidizes post-secondary tuition
costs. See individual program listings for the
actual cost per program to the student. The application and school fees
are due when the application for admission is submitted. The program fee
and tuition are due on or before the first day of class.
For the most part, educational assistance for Kansas residents is in the
form of state paid tuition. Some students may be eligible for additional
types of assistance: the Veteran's Administration, Kansas Vocational
Rehabilitation, Work Force Investment Act (W.I.A.), or other social
agencies. Federal Pell Grants and federally insured student loans are
available to those who qualify. Forms are available at the school. A
limited number of scholarships and awards may be available each year.
Information and applications are available from from high school
counselors or by contacting the school.
